How to choose a pest control marketing agency: 10 questions about recurring customers and routes

Pick the pest control marketing agency that reports cost per recurring customer, fills the routes you already drive, and keeps your Google and ad accounts in your name. That's the business: 85.4% of US residential pest control revenue is recurring.1 Yet none of the 24 agencies on Google's first page for pest control agency searches served pest control alone, and 4 led with rankings or traffic as the result.2

What should a pest control marketing agency deliver?

New recurring customers on the routes you already run, at a cost you can earn back. NPMA puts US structural pest control at $13.4 billion in 2025, with 85.4% of residential revenue recurring.1 A one-time ant treatment and a quarterly plan are different products, and the marketing report has to know the difference.

Cost per recurring customer = marketing spend ÷ new recurring plans signed

Then compare it with what a plan earns over the months a typical customer stays, and with where the customer lives. A customer two streets from an existing stop is worth more than the same customer across the county, because drive time is the cost that eats pest margins.5

What we found on Google's first page for pest control agency searches

We scored the 24 agencies that ranked on page 1 for six pest control agency searches on October 18, 2026.2

Isoline page-one audit, October 18, 2026. "Not stated" isn't proof an agency doesn't do something.2

Pest control is the trade where agencies most often sell rankings and traffic. 4 of 24 led with them, more than twice the all-trades rate. Pest control searches also returned 14 "best agency" lists on page 1, second only to HVAC, and 8 of them ranked their own publisher first.2

Red flags in a pest control marketing pitch

  • A ranking guarantee. Google's own guidance to business owners says: "No one can guarantee a #1 ranking on Google." It also warns about anyone claiming a "special relationship" with Google.8 In our audit, 1 of 100 agencies guaranteed Google rankings and 1 guaranteed AI citations; 14 more offered refunds, lead targets, performance terms or a general results promise. Refunds and fee terms are a different and more reasonable thing to ask about.2
  • Reports built on impressions, clicks and "visibility." They're easy to grow and hard to bank. Ask for calls, booked jobs and revenue by source, pulled from your own field software.
  • Nobody asks about your capacity. An agency that doesn't ask how many techs you have, how full the board is and which jobs you want more of is selling a package, not solving your problem. Google tells owners the same thing: a good SEO should ask what makes your business unique and who your competitors are.8
  • Extra Google profiles in towns where you have no staffed office. Some agencies pitch "multi-listing" as a way to show up across a metro. Google allows a service business without a storefront one profile, and more only for locations with separate staff and service areas; virtual offices aren't eligible.7 Profiles that break these rules can be suspended, and if Google restricts the account that manages them, every profile under it goes down.9 See why home service profiles get suspended.
  • Cost per lead with no word about routes. A lead outside your routes can cost more to serve than it brings in.
  • A spring plan with nothing for winter. The slow months are when reviews, retention and next season's plan get built.

What does pest control marketing cost in 2026?

The average pest control company spent 6.6% of revenue on marketing in the NPMA and PCO Bookkeepers 2025 cost study.3 On a $1.5 million company, that's about $99,000 a year across everything: agency, ads, mailers and sales materials.

Eight of the 24 pest-ranking agencies published prices. One agency ranking for pest searches listed tiers of $1,500, $2,400 and $4,000 a month, and a large trades-focused agency put its pest control programs at $5,000 a month and up.2 Across all 17 US agencies on page 1 with a starting monthly price, the median was $1,500.

What the first 90 days with a pest control agency should look like

WhenWhat you should see
Week 1–2A baseline: where you show up across your service area today, your booking rate from recorded calls, and current cost per booked job by source. If there's no baseline, there's nothing to measure against later.
Days 15–30Calls tracked and matched to new recurring plans; Business Profile services and service area fixed; review requests after first service; targeting drawn around existing routes.
Days 31–90Reports in new recurring customers and net growth; seasonal campaigns scheduled a month ahead of the swarm or the rodent push; pages for the towns inside your routes.
Day 90A one-page review: calls, booked jobs, revenue and cost per booked job by source against the baseline, a rescan of your map, and a plain answer on what to keep, change or stop.

Rankings on Google Maps can move within weeks of fixing categories, hours and reviews, and paid campaigns usually produce calls the first week. New pages usually take longer to earn traffic. Be wary of anyone who promises a specific ranking or lead count by a date, and equally wary of anyone who can't tell you what they'll have done by day 30.

Questions owners ask

Who are the best pest control marketing companies?

We don't publish a ranked list, and we'd be careful with the ones that rank on Google. In our October 2026 audit, the publisher put itself first in 59% of the "best agency" lists on page 1, and none showed prices for every agency listed.2 The best agency for you is the one that can show cost per booked job for a company your size, in your trade, from real job data. Use the scorecard on this page in every pitch.

How much should a pest control company spend on marketing?

The NPMA and PCO Bookkeepers 2025 cost study put the average at 6.6% of revenue.3 Growth-stage companies often spend more. Judge it by cost per recurring customer and how long those customers stay.

Is a pest-only marketing agency better?

If it can prove it. In our audit none of the 24 agencies ranking for pest control agency searches served pest control alone, so most owners will be choosing between home services specialists and general agencies.2

When should a pest control company hire an agency?

In winter. It gives the agency time to fix tracking, your profile and your route targeting before termite and ant season starts the phones.

What should a pest control marketing report show?

New recurring customers by source, cost per recurring customer, cancellations and net growth, and where the new customers sit relative to your routes.

About the audit: on October 18, 2026 we pulled Google's first page (US, desktop) for 30 searches an owner might type when shopping for an agency, six per trade plus six for home services in general (for example "hvac marketing agency", "plumbing seo", "best pest control marketing agency", "garage door advertising"). That returned 262 results from 150 websites; we scored 146 of them (YouTube, Facebook, LinkedIn and Reddit were counted but not scored), and 100 were agencies. We captured each site's home page, its ranking page and any pricing page, and scored them against a fixed checklist using only what the pages say. If a page didn't mention something, we counted it as not stated, which isn't proof the agency doesn't do it. Seven sites returned no readable text. Entry prices count only US-based firms' lowest monthly price for an ongoing program. Full method and per-trade tables are in the audit.2
