What should an HVAC marketing agency deliver?
Two kinds of revenue, measured separately. Repair and maintenance calls keep the trucks moving, and they now carry more of the business: in Housecall Pro's customer data, repairs rose from 21.6% of HVAC revenue in 2021 to 31.3% in 2025, and the average repair ticket from $818 to $1,205.2 Replacements carry the margin, but fewer happened last year: central AC and heat pump shipments fell 20% in 2025, to about 7.75 million units.1
An agency that reports one blended "cost per lead" can't tell you whether it's buying $90 tune-ups or $14,000 change-outs. Ask for this, by source, every month:
Cost per booked job = cost per lead ÷ booking rateReported separately for service calls, maintenance and replacement opportunities, with sold revenue next to each. In early 2026 SearchLight figures reported by The Valley Marketing Group, Local Services Ads leads for HVAC averaged about $51, and non-branded Google Ads leads across contractors about $149.5 Booking rate decides what those leads really cost.
What we found on Google's first page for HVAC agency searches
We scored the 27 agencies that ranked on page 1 for six HVAC agency searches, from "hvac marketing agency" to "hvac lead generation," on October 18, 2026.3
Isoline page-one audit, October 18, 2026. "Not stated" isn't proof an agency doesn't do something.3
HVAC agencies talk about software more than most, and about booked jobs no more than average. About a fifth (6 of 27) mention ServiceTitan or similar integrations, but only 5 of 27 lead with booked jobs or revenue. Of the 15 "best agency" lists on page 1 for HVAC searches, 11 included their own publisher and 9 put it first.3
10 questions to ask an HVAC marketing agency
Use these on top of the 12 general questions. Each one tests whether the agency understands how an HVAC company actually makes money.

Red flags in an HVAC marketing pitch
- A ranking guarantee. Google's own guidance to business owners says: "No one can guarantee a #1 ranking on Google." It also warns about anyone claiming a "special relationship" with Google.13 In our audit, 1 of 100 agencies guaranteed Google rankings and 1 guaranteed AI citations; 14 more offered refunds, lead targets, performance terms or a general results promise. Refunds and fee terms are a different and more reasonable thing to ask about.3
- Reports built on impressions, clicks and "visibility." They're easy to grow and hard to bank. Ask for calls, booked jobs and revenue by source, pulled from your own field software.
- Nobody asks about your capacity. An agency that doesn't ask how many techs you have, how full the board is and which jobs you want more of is selling a package, not solving your problem. Google tells owners the same thing: a good SEO should ask what makes your business unique and who your competitors are.13
- Extra Google profiles in towns where you have no staffed office. Some agencies pitch "multi-listing" as a way to show up across a metro. Google allows a service business without a storefront one profile, and more only for locations with separate staff and service areas; virtual offices aren't eligible.12 Profiles that break these rules can be suspended, and if Google restricts the account that manages them, every profile under it goes down.14 See why home service profiles get suspended.
- A year-round calendar that ignores the weather. HVAC demand swings with heat and cold. A plan that spends the same in July as in April is ignoring your capacity.
- Scare messaging about refrigerants. "Buy before the ban" ads aged badly when EPA removed the installation deadline for R-410A equipment made before 2025, in May 2026.8 Homeowners notice.
What does HVAC marketing cost in 2026?
Nine of the 27 HVAC-ranking agencies published prices.3 Across all 17 US agencies on page 1 that listed a starting monthly price, the median was $1,500. One large national agency listed HVAC SEO at $2,900 to $9,200 a month after a two-month initial campaign of $8,600 to $21,400. Ad spend is extra. Hook Agency's 2026 guide puts SEO at $1,000 to $3,500 a month and full programs at $2,500 to $10,000.15
Price the work against your jobs. If a non-branded search lead costs about $149 and you book a third of them, each booked opportunity costs about $450 before anyone sells anything.5 That's fine on a $12,000 system and terrible on a tune-up, which is why the report has to split them.
Which kind of agency fits an HVAC shop?
| Type | Strength | Watch for | Often fits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Large national agency (all industries) | Deep bench, mature processes, big case-study library | Your account may be small for them; HVAC know-how varies by team | Multi-location HVAC with a marketing manager |
| Home services specialist | Speaks the language of booked jobs, techs and seasons | Some run the same playbook for every client and trade | Most owner-run HVAC shops |
| Single-trade specialist | Knows your trade's calls, jobs and seasons cold | Rare: 6 of the 100 agencies in our audit served one trade only | Owners who want HVAC depth above all |
| Your field software's marketing add-on | Data already connected to your jobs | Usually narrower scope; check what's done for you and what's self-serve | Shops deep in ServiceTitan or Housecall Pro |
| Lead marketplace (Angi, Thumbtack and similar) | Calls this week, no setup | Leads are often shared with competitors; the demand stays with the marketplace | Filling a slow shoulder-season week |
| Freelancer or local generalist | Low cost, close by | Coverage gaps when they're busy or move on | 1–3 truck shops testing the basics |
Fit notes are our judgment from working with owner-run shops, not survey data. The single-trade count comes from our page-one audit.3
What the first 90 days with an HVAC agency should look like
| When | What you should see |
|---|---|
| Week 1–2 | A baseline: where you show up across your service area today, your booking rate from recorded calls, and current cost per booked job by source. If there's no baseline, there's nothing to measure against later. |
| Days 15–30 | Call tracking matched to jobs; repair, maintenance and replacement reported separately; Business Profile categories and services fixed; Local Services Ads job types and areas tightened. |
| Days 31–90 | Replacement targeting aimed at older-housing neighborhoods; membership push timed for the next shoulder season; new service and town pages where the map shows gaps. |
| Day 90 | A one-page review: calls, booked jobs, revenue and cost per booked job by source against the baseline, a rescan of your map, and a plain answer on what to keep, change or stop. |
Rankings on Google Maps can move within weeks of fixing categories, hours and reviews, and paid campaigns usually produce calls the first week. New pages usually take longer to earn traffic. Be wary of anyone who promises a specific ranking or lead count by a date, and equally wary of anyone who can't tell you what they'll have done by day 30.

Questions owners ask
Who are the best HVAC marketing companies?
We don't publish a ranked list, and we'd be careful with the ones that rank on Google. In our October 2026 audit, the publisher put itself first in 59% of the "best agency" lists on page 1, and none showed prices for every agency listed.3 The best agency for you is the one that can show cost per booked job for a company your size, in your trade, from real job data. Use the scorecard on this page in every pitch.
How much should an HVAC company spend on marketing?
There's no reliable HVAC survey on this. Hook Agency typically sees 5% to 15% for home services businesses trying to grow.15 Judge it by cost per booked job, split by repair and replacement.
Is an HVAC-only agency better?
Only if it proves it. Just 2 of the 27 agencies ranking for HVAC agency searches served a single trade.3 A home services specialist with HVAC clients and booked-job reporting can be just as good.
Should I use Local Services Ads or hire an agency?
Often both. LSA is pay-per-lead and works best when you answer every call; an agency should set job types and service areas tightly, because Google no longer credits leads for jobs or areas you don't serve.10
When is the best time to hire an HVAC marketing agency?
Before a shoulder season. Starting in early spring or early fall gives the agency time to fix tracking and your profile before peak demand arrives.

About the audit: on October 18, 2026 we pulled Google's first page (US, desktop) for 30 searches an owner might type when shopping for an agency, six per trade plus six for home services in general (for example "hvac marketing agency", "plumbing seo", "best pest control marketing agency", "garage door advertising"). That returned 262 results from 150 websites; we scored 146 of them (YouTube, Facebook, LinkedIn and Reddit were counted but not scored), and 100 were agencies. We captured each site's home page, its ranking page and any pricing page, and scored them against a fixed checklist using only what the pages say. If a page didn't mention something, we counted it as not stated, which isn't proof the agency doesn't do it. Seven sites returned no readable text. Entry prices count only US-based firms' lowest monthly price for an ongoing program. Full method and per-trade tables are in the audit.3
